The Chapel in the Woods, nestled amongst the woods at Graceland is a beautiful venue. I was fortunate to photography many weddings at this venue which is perfect for small weddings and couples looking to have a intimate experience. With Covid-19 restrictions, more number of couples are preferring to get married at small venues with a limited number of guests consisting of close family and friends and sometimes, just them and Livestream the whole ceremony online so people can be part of their special day virtually.
A Halloween Wedding At The Candy Factory Suites
Not every photographer is lucky to shoot a Halloween wedding! When JoBeth and Josh asked me to shoot their Halloween themed wedding on Halloween day, I was curious and wanted to do it bad! The wedding was at The Candy Factory Suites in Memphis, a venue I never shot before so I went there along with my second shooter for a scout. It is a beautiful venue, modern but also has this old world charm and perfect for small weddings. This venue definitely feels cozy and personable.
The venue is located in downtown Memphis on M.L.K. Jr Avenue and there are many beautiful urban spots around to take some great photos without going too far.
Since this wedding happened during the infamous Covid-19 pandemic, there were of course many precautions taken and I am impressed how the venue took this seriously and made sure they checked temperatures of every guest coming in and keeping sanitizer stations all over. The wedding party had custom made masks too!
The guests had some hilarious and beautiful costumes too! We had Gene Simmons (In a mask), little supermen and spidermen, Flo from Progressive and Jake from State Farm and many more!
This post is not enough to talk about the bride and groom. The beautiful couple are the nicest people ever, very genuine and warm and I could see how much they were in love with each other. I am lucky to get to work with couples like that.
This has been a memorable wedding I have photographed in Memphis and will have fond memories from this shoot. If you are planning a small and intimate wedding, I will definitely recommend this venue.

A Water Salute To A Distinguished Service
When I received an enquiry from Cindy asking me if I was interested to photograph the landing of the last flight of her pilot husband, I could not say no! UPS Pilot Captain Dave Driscoll is retiring after a long and successful career flying planes for UPS and as a tribute to his distinguished career, UPS arranged a water canon salute as his flight arrives in Memphis Airport.
I reach the UPS facility early morning, finish the security process and a UPS vehicle escorts me to the runway where family, friends and colleagues of Capt Driscoll are waiting. Soon the flight lands and the water salute begins. This has been an amazing experience for me photographing this unique event. You can see a few photos here.
Are you a pilot, retiring soon and want to memorialize this occasion with photographs? Talk to me!
Using HyperSync with PocketWizards
This post is for photographers who have been having issues setting up HyperSync with their Einstein/Alien Bee strobes with PockeWiizards.
I won’t go into details about what HyperSync is and what it is used for. While setting up HyperSync with my Paul C. Buff Einstein with a PowerMC2 receiver and a FlexTT5 transmitter, I faced clipping or black bars at speeds above X-sync.
First connect your PowerMC2 to the PocketWizard utility, select Advanced Mode and click on HyperSync tab and select Reduced Clipping.
Next connect your FlexTT5 to the PocketWizard utility. Click on the Channel tab and select your camera from the list. Click on Apply Changes to save the settings.
Now click on the HyperSync/HSS tab. Select the HyperSync Only option. For the HyperSync flash duration, 10 is a good starting point. Take a few shots with different values and see what works best. Now click on Apply Changes to save the settings.
Now connect your PowerMC2 to your Einstein. This is the key part. The flash has to be in Color mode and has to be set at “Full Power”. HyperSync won’t work if the power is less. Also, if you are using a AC3 zone controller, make sure it is set on M (Manual) instead of auto. Now you can shoot at higher shutter speeds with no banding!
